The laws set forth here are universal in nature; they are binding on every single soul that has ever lived or will ever live on this earth, with the exception of Jesus Christ. You cannot flee from them. They cannot be altered. They cannot be done away with by a city council or an act of congress. You cannot reason them away. When you go to bed at night they will still be there in the morning when you wake up.
However, there is hope of deliverance from these laws; there is a Deliverer. But before we get to that, let’s first learn what these universal laws are.
“The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.” (Psalm 58:3) Think about this for a moment. Did anyone teach you how to lie when you were young? Did anyone have to sit you down and teach you how to become angry, hateful, lustful, greedy, jealous, prideful, etc.? Of course not because it just came naturally. We are all born with a sin nature resulting in a natural inclination to disobey, rebel, and say, “I am going to do what I want to do regardless of what God wants.” Do not blame other people or circumstances for your sins; instead, take responsibility yourself. Realize you have been born with a sin nature which has soaked into and infected every part of your being: body, soul, and spirit.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) It naturally follows that if we are all born with a sin nature, then we are all sinners in God’s eyes. We are all violators, transgressors against the 10 Commandments; God’s holy law of moral righteousness. For “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” (1 John 3:4) This makes us all guilty in the eyes of God, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” (James 2:10)
“For the wages of sin is death.…” (Romans 6:23a) This is your payoff for sinning against God. Everyone will die physically at some point in their life, but even worse than this is the spiritual death sin has brought upon us. The condition of all sinners is one of being “dead in trespasses and sins.” (Ephesians 2:1) This condition has resulted in separation from God which will ultimately lead to God’s judgment: the 2nd death.
“...but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.” (Ecclesiastes 11:9) As you read before, we are all guilty of breaking God’s holy law; therefore, God demands justice to be carried out against all transgressors. And what is God’s sentence passed down to guilty sinners who haven’t been forgiven? “Whosoever hath sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Exodus 32:33, Revelation 20:15) This is the 2nd death. Here you will remain physically alive forever in the torments of hell but will be spiritually dead to God with no hope for reconciliation. (Revelation 21:8)
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.” (John 5:25) The dead Jesus was referring to were the spiritually dead, i.e., those who were “dead in trespasses and sins.” Since we are sinners, He is speaking to us all. He has a message of eternal life for us. Are you ready to listen? Are you going to hear the voice of Jesus Christ when he says, “For this is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”? (Matthew 26:28) Jesus is referring to the blood He shed on the cross when he died for your trespasses and sins. He is telling you that He is your Deliverer from these condemning laws. Jesus can deliver you from the 2nd death! He can deliver you from God’s judgment! He can deliver you from a guilty verdict! He died for your sins and then rose from the dead; therefore, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved....even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” (Acts 4:12, 1 Thessalonians 1:10)
Here are your choices: forgiveness or fire, heaven or hell, deliverance or damnation, Jesus or judgment. God is giving you a free gift of mercy, pardon and forgiveness through His Son. Confess your sins and make a decision to follow Jesus. Put your trust in Him as your Lord and Savior; call on Him today, “For Thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon Thee. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Psalm 86:5, Romans 10:13)
Today is your day of deliverance! “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2) Praise the Lord!
